Santiago Fashion Week | Day 1

santiago-fashion-week-dia-1-primera-jornada-santiago-moda-golden-strokes-fashion O-M-G. I don’t even know where should I start from. First day at Santiago Fashion Week didn’t go exactly as I expected, but it had nothing to do with the event itself or the designers, it was my state of mind that wasn’t in place. I never actually thought that I was going to be a nobody here, because I’m new in the city, because my blog is too new and because in not even from Chile, so yes, I don’t know why I never prepared myself but it felt so terrible walking around knowing no one, not being able to even look up for someone because I have no friends here (at least not in the ‘fashion’ world) and it’s not that I expected to be the same as in Tijuana, but it never occurred to me it was going to be this overwhelming. division¡Dios! [ezcol_1half]So, let’s start with the good things. The event was SO cool, the way everything was put together, with a red carpet and everything, -fun fact, the red carpet situation was so strange to me because I don’t know anything about who’s famous here or why, so for me there was no famous people around, just unknown people. It was surrealistic, like the ones I used to watch on T.V. or in magazines, maybe a little bit smaller, but just that. I mean, of course there were some downsides like the lack of organization in the front rows, but nothing to cry about -at least not for me. The real differences came out when I started looking at everyone’s clothes and of course the runways. I was half-back on 2012, it was SO weird.

santiago-fashion-week-dia-1-primera-jornada-santiago-moda-golden-strokes-fashion [ezcol_1half]For day one I wanted to try something bold -for me- and also to bring something from Tijuana, so I wore a hand-painted t-shirt from M by Montserrat Murillo and mixed with leather joggers, a gray blazer and a faux fur vest, which apparently is really in here. I really liked how it came out, I has really comfy in those sporty joggers and I found it funny that I didn’t spot too many people mixing bold textures, or into the sporty chic trend, so I felt cool with my choice, quite unique at this event, pretty common outside Chile.[/ezcol_1half][ezcol_1half_end]Para el primer día quería usar algo atrevido y algo de mi bella Tijuana, así que use una camisa pintada a mano de M by Montserrat Murillo y la mezclé con unos pantalones estilo deportivo de cuero, un blazer gris y un chaleco de faux fur que parece estar en su mejor momento aquí. [/ezcol_1half_end]

– REVIEWS –

nicanor-bravo-moda-fashion-chile-santiago-chilean-santiago-fashion-week-2015[ezcol_1half]The first show started with a lot of energy and attitude. Nicanor presented a collection for the classic-elegant but free open-minded woman. I wasn’t a fan of the styling, but it was the key to maintain the sequence of the collection, with a safe color palette, simple cuts and almost classic lines. The main focus of the outfits were the transparencies, applications and beautiful embroidery. A lot of legs, tons of skin showing out and my favorite detail: the neck lines and the details on the shoulders.

MODLAB-INACAP-moda-fashion-chile-santiago-chilean-santiago-fashion-week-2015[ezcol_1half]I was really confused with this show, at first I didn’t know it was a group of young designers, each of them presented around 4-5 looks and I just chose my favorites for the collage. I would’ve liked to know the mind behind each look, but well, I was surprised with the quality of the designs and the fabrics. I didn’t spot any big risks or innovations though, but they sure were perfect ready-to-wear pieces with a really good styling.

claudio-paredes-moda-fashion-chile-santiago-chilean-santiago-fashion-week-2015[ezcol_1half]I’m not the biggest fan of tale inspired/intervened designs, but besides the obvious reference of Alice in Wonderland I liked the collection. The little easy to wear dresses and the beautiful capes were my favorite, I also liked the dresses with transparent skirts and some pieces of the men’s wear. Still, I don’t understand why there were so many light fabrics and short skirts if this was a Fall-Winter edition.[/ezcol_1half][ezcol_1half_end]No soy la mayor fan de diseños inspirados o intervenidos por cuentos, pero quitando la obvia referencia de Lewis Carroll, me gustó esta colección.

maria-eugenia-INACAP-moda-fashion-chile-santiago-chilean-santiago-fashion-week-2015[ezcol_1half]I love, love, love this collection. The sequence and the cohesion of the color scheme, fabrics and lines made me smile the whole time; dresses with long sleeves, jackets over light fabrics, heavy fabrics for skirts and a lot of movement into the pieces. I was stunned with the way Maria Eugenia mixed the elegance and sexiness of dresses with the necessity to cover up when it’s cold, the perfect balance of looking good + being comfortable in this weather.

love-lust-lenceria-lingerie-moda-fashion-chile-santiago-chilean-santiago-fashion-week-2015[ezcol_1half]I’m a sucker when it comes to lingerie, I love taking care of my inner outfit to feel good the whole day. My favorite part are the bold cuts around the bottoms and the way the designs played with transparencies and laces, covering but still showing everything. A good mix between a romanic affair and some playful sexiness going on.

benito-fernandez-moda-fashion-chile-santiago-chilean-santiago-fashion-week-2015[ezcol_1half]OK. Let’s please take a moment and admire these beautiful creations. I mean, I wasn’t even mad about they all being summer wear -because I hate when they put S/S collections in F/W shows- but Benito totally stole my breath, my soul, and pretty soon all my money. The rain of colors, details and textures filled the runway and put a smile in everyone’s face. Dresses, skirts and head pieces, perfectly balanced with tons of colors and beautiful embroidery, going under the premise ‘more is not enough’. [/ezcol_1half][ezcol_1half_end]OK.

paulo-mendez-moda-fashion-chile-santiago-chilean-santiago-fashion-week-2015[ezcol_1half]To close the day, Paulo Mendez made an amazing runway show mixed with what I like to call ‘fashion intervention’, models covered with black paint looking like they where all dirty, wearing sporty high socks and carrying cool purses that looked like garbage bags. This was the only show where I saw some pieces related with today’s street style trends and I really liked the mix between fashion and social movement. [/ezcol_1half_end]

Overall it was a good first day, I learned a lot about Chilean fashion and also about street style by looking at the audience’s outfits. It was funny to me because I live in the frontier with U.S.A, two hours apart from L.A., one of the biggest fashion districts in the world. So I don’t call myself an expert in fashion, but I am very observant and curious. Santiago’s fashion trends -talking about the runways- are a little bit behind, safe and pretty much stuck in the same color palette. And talking about street style, it’s also behind, but it mixes trends that I wore two years ago with current trends and I found that really interesting. I didn’t have the best social experience the first day so I was really skeptical about everything…
