Santiago Fashion Week | Day 2

After not having the best social experience the first day at Santiago Fashion Week, I wasn’t truly excited to be there, but I had to. One part of me knew that I had to face my fears, seize the opportunity and well, we had already payed for the 3 days. I did make an effort to not being alone at the event, I was talking with two other bloggers: Valentina from valerousse.blogspot.com and Barbie from insolita.cl who I met trough Instagram. We exchanged whatshapps and I was talking to them on my way to SFW so we could arrive together, but for one reason or another I arrived alone. I was a little bit sad because I thought I’d have to sit alone, but the thing is that I was there and I wanted to see more of Chilean’s style and learn about their fashion matters.

Después de no tener la mejor experiencia socialmente hablando el primer día del SFW, no estaba muy emocionada de ir, pero tenía que hacerlo. Una parte de mi sabía que tenía que afrontar ese miedo, aprovechar la oportunidad y bueno, ya había pagado para asistir los tres días. Hice un esfuerzo para no estar sola en el evento, le hablé a un par de bloggers: Valentina de valerousse.blogspot.com y Barbie de insolita.cl que las conocí por instagram. Intercambiamos nuestros whatsapps y les hablé en camino al evento para llegar juntas, pero por una razón u otra llegué sola. Tenía un poco de miedo y tristeza porque me iba a tener que sentar sola, pero ya estaba ahí y quería conocer más sobre el estilo chileno y aprender sobre su material dentro de la moda.

[ezcol_1half]Happily for me things changed once I decided to smile and have fun. I arrived pretty early to the venue and while I was in the line I randomly met a Brazilian girl -Izabela- who recently moved to Santiago and was alone like me, so we stayed together. Once we entered we sat together and started chatting like we knew each other for a long time,  I was really happy to find someone with whom I can feel comfortable and complain about chileans and their lack of solidarity or their weird style.

Then Izabela had to go home and I found another friend: Dana, the manager of deisabella.com. We sat together trough some of the shows and then I went to take some air and there I saw Edu from Edu Love That and met some of the girls behind chicandpsico.cl. I felt so much better this day, I was able to enjoy it even more. That famous phrase is right “happiness is nothing if you don’t have someone to share it with”[/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]Felizmente para mi las cosas cambiaron cuando decidí que me iba a divertir y sonreírle a todos. Llegué temprano al lugar y mientras estaba haciendo fila conocí a Izabela, una chica Brasileña que se acaba de mudar a Santiago y como también ella venía sola decidimos quedarnos juntas. Una vez que entramos nos sentamos a platicar como si nos conociéramos desde hace mucho, estaba contenta de encontrar a alguien con quien sentirme en confianza y con quien pudiera quejarme de la falta de solidaridad de los chilenos o de sus tendencias raras.

Después Izabela se fue a su casa y me encontré con otra amiga: Dana, la mamanager de deisabella.com. Nos sentamos juntas en un par de pasarelas y después salí a tomar un poco de aire y conocí a Edu de Edu Love That y a algunas de las niñas de chicandpsico.cl. [ezcol_1half]For day two I wanted to create a more elegant look, but keeping it fun. I love this pencil skirt because it’s one those pieces that never gets old, the print is fun and colorful but not annoying. I mixed it with a camel leather jacket as a cape and I used a jersey top because apparently I’m obsessed with sporty chic. Then I turned my beloved Aldo into a clutch and I wore my new heels from Zara, that I must admit, they are not the comfiest, but they look pretty. I was happy with my choice and a lot of people was complimenting it -including the UBER guy-, and I realized that even if I was using fall colors and simple pieces I still looked different because of the way I mix trends, colors and how I play with my wardrobe. I approached a chic look with interesting pieces and didn’t look ridiculous or like I was trying too hard like some of the guests.[/ezcol_1half][ezcol_1half_end]Para la segunda jornada quise crear un look elegante pero divertido. Me encanta esta falda de lápiz porque es una pieza que jamás pasara de ‘moda’, el estampado es divertido y colorido sin ser escandaloso. La mezclé con una chamarra de cuero camel que usé como capa + un top deportivo porque estoy obsesionada con el sportychic. También convertí mi bolsa Aldo en un clutch y usé mis nuevos tacones favoritos de Zara, que si bien no son los más cómodos lucen muy lindos. Estaba muy contenta con mi elección y mucha gente me decía que me veía muy bien -incluido el chofer de UBER. Además me di cuenta de que incluso si usaba colores otoñales y prendas muy simples me seguía viendo distinta por la forma en la que mezclo las tendencias, colores y cómo juego con los elementos de mi closet. Me acerqué a un look chic con piezas interesantes y no me miraba ridícula o como si estuviera tratando demasiado como algunos de los invitados.[/ezcol_1half_end]

[ezcol_1half]I was excited to see this designer because I also randomly met his mom while making line. I like how he played with the figure and added some details that, thanks to his mom, I know they are from Mapuche culture. My favorite pieces were the ones made with rope and another detail I liked was the color palette, perfectly balanced with fall. I liked the collection but the lines and cuts where too safe for me, although I loved the details of each piece, they were perfectly made and the collection looked like million bucks.[/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]Estaba muy emocionada de conocer este diseñador porque conocí a su mamá mientras estaba en la fila para entrar. Me gustó como jugó con la figura de la mujer y añadió muchos detalles lindos que, gracias a su mamá, sé que son de referencia Mapuche. Mis piezas favoritas fueron las que estaban hechas como de cordón y otro detalle que me gustó fue la paleta de colores, perfectamente balanceada para el otoño. Me gustó la colección a pesar de que los cortes y líneas me parecieron muy a la segura, aunque en verdad amé los detalles en bordado o color de cada pieza, perfectamente bien hechos que hacían que la colección se viera muy de lujo y cara.[/ezcol_1half_end]

[ezcol_1half]Fist of all I found it really funny that they had a runway for shoes, because I’ve been in shoe lines presentations before and they are always an exhibition, but well. It was quite hard to see for everyone who wasn’t on the front row, but from what I was able to see I must admit Eduardo is bold, I could even say edgy, but I’ve seen those same chunky heels and heavy platforms everywhere. I mean, just go to topshop.com and there you have it. It’s not that I’m against them, I just didn’t find them innovative. But what I liked was the way Eduardo mixed textures, like vinil and suede, something I haven’t seen here and it’s pretty trendy in the north hemisphere.[/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]Encontré super chistoso que hicieran una pasarela para zapatos, ya que he estado en presentaciones de nuevas líneas de zapatos y siempre han sido exhibiciones, pero bueno. Fue un poco difícil de ver para todos los que no estaban en primera fila, pero de lo que pude ver tengo que admitir que Eduardo es audaz, podría decir atrevido, pero ya he visto ese mismo tacón grueso y plataforma alta en todas partes. O sea, solo ve a topshop.com y ahí esta. Y no es que esté en contra de ellos, sólo que no me pareció muy innovador. Pero lo que me gusto de Eduardo fue la mezcla de texturas como el vinil y gamuza, algo que no había visto por acá y esta muy trendy en el hemisferio norte.[/ezcol_1half_end]

[ezcol_1half]This collection was one of my favorites, the lines and silhouettes were really simple, classic and clean in order to make the fabric and colors the main focus. I’m amazed by the gradients in the fabrics, they are so well done and so soft and sweet, almost like cotton candy walking down the runway. I also liked the bold choice of making a Fall/Winter collection with a white base mixed with pastels shades! My favorite part is the mix of light weight fabric with faux fur, making the collection really easy to wear in almost any weather condition. [/ezcol_1half][ezcol_1half_end]Esta colección fue de mis favoritas, las lineas y siluetas eran muy simples, clasicas y limpias para dejar que las telas y los colores fueran el foco principal. Estoy impresionada por los gradientes en las telas, están muy bien logrados, suaves y dulces, casi como algodón de azúcar andando por la pasarela. También me gusto la decisión arriesgada de usar tonos pasteles en una colección de otoño/invierno! Mi parte favorita fue la mezcla de tela ligera con piel sintética, que hace que la colección sea muy fácil de usar en casi cualquier clima. [/ezcol_1half_end]

[ezcol_1half]Breath taking, I’m obsessed with Valeria’s work. She kept the silhouettes really clean adding interesting cuts and applications to make this almost-minimalistic-collection a very interesting mix. A pretty basic color pallete with black & white as the main but adding some earthy shades with some cool straight trousers and amazing capes. I loved the balance between effortless chic and minimalistic due to the details in the chest and shoulders. And don’t even get me started with the capes, total love! I can’t wait to have one of those in my hands. What I liked the most were the lines with different fabrics and textures that made each piece really interesting to see. [/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]Me dejó sin aliento, estoy obsesionada con el trabajo de Valeria. Dejó las siluetas muy limpias añadiendo cortes y aplicaciones interesantes para hacer esta colección casi minimalista. Una paleta de color muy básica manteniendo el blanco y negro como bases, pero añadiendo tonos tierra con pantalones rectos y capas maravillosas. Me encantó el balance entre lo minimalista y lo elegante gracias a los detalles en el pecho y hombros. Y no me hagan comenzar con las capas, ¡estoy enamorada totalmente! No puedo esperar para tener una de esas en mis manos. Lo que más me gustó fueron las lineas con telas y texturas distintas que hacen cada pieza muy interesante de ver.[/ezcol_1half_end]

[ezcol_1half]Again INACAP presented some work of their students from ModLAB, but this time I wasn’t really excited. The looks for woman were really predictable and common. But for men’s wear I saw some interesting pieces, maybe because I’m not used to going into men’s section, but I liked the cuts and the mix of textures and prints. Although I’m not sure if they are really wearable, at least not in latin america. Besides the lack of innovation, I found really nice the quality of finishes and materials used for this baby collections. [/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]De nuevo INACAP presentó el trabajo de sus estudiantes de ModLab ,pero esta vez no me emocionó tanto. Los conjuntos para mujeres fueron muy comunes y predecibles. Pero los diseños para hombre se me hicieron interesantes, tal vez porque no entro mucho a la sección de hombres en las tiendas, pero me gustaron mucho los cortes y las mezclas de texturas y estampados de fotos de ciudades. Aunque no estoy segura de qué tan viable sería para vestir, sobre todo en America Latina donde los hombres no se atreven tanto. Haciendo a un lado la falta de innovación, sigo encantada con la calidad de los materiales que se usan en estas colecciones. [/ezcol_1half_end]

[ezcol_1half]This collection was actually pretty innovative for me because I never imagined this fabric was so wearable, I’ve only seen it in scarfs and maybe some hippie sweaters, but Pampa Corral made an elegant and cozy collection full of wool. The color palette was lovely: beige, white and some statement pieces with electric blue and bright orange to make this season a little bit more interesting, away from the boring black that was the king of SFW. The quality of the designs and materials was amazing, it looked really soft and with a lot of movement -for such a thick fabric. I’m dying for the blue cape/dress and the brown scarf that looks so soft![/ezcol_1half][ezcol_1half_end]Esta colección fue bastante innovadora para mi, ya que nunca me había imaginado que este material iba a ser tan usable, solo lo había visto en bufandas y algún suéter de hippie, pero Pampa Corral hizo una colección elegante y acogedora de pura lana. La paleta de color fue hermosa: beige, blanco y algunas piezas fuertes en azul eléctrico y naranja brillante para hacer esta temporada un poco más interesante, lejos del aburrido negro que fue el rey del SFW. La calidad de los diseños y materiales fue increíble, se veía muy suave y con mucho movimiento -para una tela tan gruesa. Me muero por tener ese vestido/capa azul y la bufanda cafe, se ve súper suavecita![/ezcol_1half_end]

[ezcol_1half]To close the second day, Matías Hernán presented an edgy full-black collection. Mixing different fabrics to create textures and contrast, the collection was filled with sexual and sexy tints, focused in harness and a lot of skin. Not really into the fall/winter vibes, and maybe not too original because I’ve seen harness and masochistic trends everywhere since 50 shades of grey, but it was refreshing to see another designer bold enough to make a statement out of his work and create something out of the box and different from all his colleagues. I could totally see myself with the last harness wearing a pair of boyfriend jeans and a furry coat on top. [/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]Para cerrar el segundo día, Matias Hernán presentó una colección arriesgada en negro total. Mezclando distintos tipos de tela para crear contraste y textura en sus looks, la colección estuvo llena de toques sexuales y sensualidad enfocándose en los arneses y en mucha piel a la vista. No fue muy adecuada para el otoño/invierno y tal vez no tan original, ya que gracias a 50 sombras de gray hemos visto arneses y tendencias masoquistas por varias pasarelas, pero fue muy refrescante ver otro diseñador que fue valiente e hizo una colección que hablaba de su trabajo y creó algo fuera de la caja Chilena y distinto al trabajo de sus colegas. Totalmente me puedo ver usando el último arnés con unos jeans de corte amplio y un saco peludo.[/ezcol_1half_end]

Second day of Santiago Fashion Week was socially better, but after comparing a lot with my previous fashion atmosphere, I got bored with most of the shows. I mean the work is good, the quality of the materials is amazing, I really liked how well put together everything was and the clothing was really well done, but talking about design I feel like I’m seeing the same thing again and again with different color or with applications on top. There isn’t a lot of new/bold/risky ideas and I know that being original at this point is almost imposible, but it seems like some of them are not even trying. I prefer to see some weird silhouettes and crazy cuts than the same mid skirt with a croptop again. But well, at least now I can proudly say that I’m starting to make friends in this new world! I’m so excited because this days have been so full of experiences, new things and new people. But wait for it, the last day of SFW is about to come!La segunda jornada del Santiago Fashion Week fue socialmente mucho mejor, pero después de comparar tantas veces con mi antigua atmósfera fashionista me aburrí muy rápido con algunos de los shows. Y la cosa es que el trabajo es muy bueno, la calidad de los materiales es impresionante, me gusta cómo es que todo está bien terminado y las prendas están bien hechas, pero hablando de diseño siento que estoy viendo lo mismo de nuevo, sólo que con diferente color o con aplicaciones encima. Casi no hay propuestas nuevas, arriesgadas o atrevidas y sé que ser original en este punto es casi imposible, pero me parecía que varios no estaban ni siquiera intentándolo. Prefiero ver una silueta rara con cortes locos que una falda a la rodilla y un peto de nuevo. Pero bueno, ¡por lo menos puedo decir que ya estoy haciendo amigos en este nuevo mundo! Estoy muy emocionada porque estos días han estado llenos de experiencias, nuevas cosas y nueva gente. Y esperen más, que aún falta el último día del SFW.
