A decade of blogging

I’m a blogger –

I don’t even know where to start. It’s been 10 years! What the actual f*ck?! I never imagine being here for so long, I mean, as the years passed I realized that I was still blogging, but I never made the connection with the time, as romantic and ceremonial I am I never did a count down or something to remind me of the longevity of my posts. It’s amazing to see that I’ve been blogging for 10 years now, that’s almost half of my life.

It all started because I wanted to find a place to feel free, to belong and get the affirmation that my love for fashion didn’t made me less smart or important. With that I wanted to make friends, to be listened and maybe understood. By that time I also started to call myself Luisa Verdee, and oh boy, never knew how strong that name was going to detach.

In my ‘who I am’ post I wrote that I was: “A person who is finishing high school, and who is very afraid to enter university. I will study Engineering in Digital Graphic Design and will be one of the best!” I did finished my career on 2014, went on a international student exchange and I dare to say I was one of the best of my class. I did countless amounts of activities, academically I was always on top of my grades (also because of the scholarship), I was one of the first who started officially working in design, I had a lot of fun and met two of my best friends, there where four, but you know, life happens.

I also said wrote about me that: “I like to take photos, but I still don’t have my own camera. I really like to be updated on social networks. I want to be someone known for what I do, whatever it is, for doing better than everyone else.” After working for a year I got the money to buy my camera, although my dad bought it for me so I could save the money for other things I wanted to buy. I still up to date with social media (I do know all the dances from tiktok) and after a lot of work and time I’m known for what I do, even in a different country, where I had to start from zero. I don’t know if I’m the best yet, but everyday I do my part to be, although being better than everyone is not my goal anymore, I learned that there’s room for all of us fo be the best.

I think I was the most blogger productive on my first 2 years, first because I didn’t had much responsibilities and my best friends use to work as my photographers. It made me feel so proud, having a side part project and be steadfast with it. 7-8 years ago blogging and online presence was so rare and unknown people used to admire that from me, they acted shocked and most of the time didn’t even understood what I was talking about. I feel old saying this but now being an influencer, youtuber, instablogger or anything that has to do with online presence is so normal, it actually became a joke. Proud to be one of the first. I was a visionary.

With social media a huge change came, but at that time I was focus on other thinks. I wanted to travel and enjoy my student exchange so I decided to pause my blogging career and closed all my social accounts related to the project. It felt right, I needed space for me, to get new experiences. Sometimes I do feel a little bit of sorrow because it was actually that year when Instagram exploded and online influencing became somewhat normal.

None the less I took almost an entire year outside of the blogosphere, but then I felt like there was something missing, I remember coming home after work and having too much free time, so I decided to go back and Golden Strokes was born.

(My very first outfit on the blogosphere)

I started from ‘Here, in nowhere’ (2010-2010), to a brief pass to ‘It’s like a tanktop’ (2010-2011), then to ‘Green’s life diary'(2011-2013) now we are here: ‘Golden Strokes'(2014-present).

They have no idea how great it is to have this kind of journal online, where I can look back and follow my progress, my style, my way of thinking, see what’s advanced and be able to keep track of my life, what I want, my goals and others. Even if it’s only part of life, it’s great.

I’ve learn so many things working as a blogger (and I mean working because of the amount of time and effort, not money), I’ve made friends, I’ve found new passions, learn new abilities, exploded others and also I’ve walked out of my comfort zone, over and over. I’ve had opportunities that I could never imagine, that I didn’t even knew they existed and surprisingly it helped me open a lot fo doors in the new country I live in.

It’s been such an amazing journey, I can’t even put it into words, so much has happened, astonishing opportunities and there’s so much more to come! I’m so excited for what’s next, I can’t believe it. It has truly become part of who I am and I never thought it was going to be this way. The crazy amount of people I’ve been able to meet and help, how so many of my childhood and teen dreams are coming true thanks to having this platform. Maybe I’m not the more famous, or even good at this, I don’t make tons of money and for the past few years it has become sometimes stressful to deal with GS, but it is, wholeheartedly, one of the best things that have happened to me. It has change and brought forward my life.

I cannot go without paying my respect to my friends and even exes (bfs and friends) who constantly helped me to get to where I am, they pushed me to be constant, to have fun, to share my ideas and be better. Specially to Annie, Jo and Mr P of course, my biggest fan and support.

Fun facts:

My first blog had a black background, funny to think that now days ‘dark mode’ sites are getting trendy.

For two years I named my outfit posts after a chapter of Gossip Girl and I always tried to match the name of the post with the look or the topic I talked in it.

I’m a little ashamed of my bad grammar both in english and spanish but it’s a good reminder of how much I’ve improve.

My first three blogs where hosted on luisaverdee.blogspot.com, but after my one year on break from blogging I didn’t felt like the same person who wrote all of that so I decided to start from zero, new name, new site and new social networks.

A lot of people assume I opened my blog when I moved to Chile, but no baby, I had plenty of experience before. GS was born 7 months before moving day.

Something cute is that I still sign my posts the same way since I started.

Orgullosamente blogger –

Ni siquiera sé por dónde empezar. ¡Han pasado 10 años! Whaaaaat?!

Comencé en ‘Here, in nowhere’ (2010-2010), a ‘It’s like a tanktop’ (2010-2011), para pasar a ‘Green’s life diary'(2011-2013) y llegar al ahora: ‘Golden Strokes'(2014-present).
