Last day of Santiago Fashion Week went really well, I was actually getting on with the way things work here (talking about fashion, of course). I read a lot about what was going on with some designers, I read some magazine and online articles and I also did a little blogger research. I only found two, but that was enough to have a little bit more clarity about the “why’s” I was asking myself the past two days. The hardest thing to get with is that they are so behind in trends or product stack, and well, of course the distance is a mayor factor, but there’s also a really small part of the population that cares, and also the inevitable seasonal change makes everything difficult. It has been a real struggle for me to be here and talk about Tarte or an effortless look without anyone who can actually understand, but I’m guessing that’s part of this transition and sometimes it’s funny because I feel I have something different to show here, and I just hope I can make my voice heard.
El último día del Santiago Fashion Week estuvo muy cool, estaba un poco mejor preparada en cuanto a como las cosas pasan aquí (hablando de moda). Leí mucho sobre algunos diseñadores, también unas revistas locales y artículos online y obvio, seguí con mi búsqueda de bloggers. Sólo encontré dos ‘populares’, pero fue suficiente para tener un poco más claros los “por qué” que he estado preguntándome los días pasados. Lo más difícil de adaptarme es que Chile se encuentra muy atrasado en tendencias y productos, y bueno, claro que la distancia geográfica tiene mucho que ver, además de que sólo una parte muy pequeña de su población se interesa por esas cosas y el inevitable cambio de estación hace que todo sea más complicado. Ha sido un problema real para mi no tener con quién hablar sobre Tarte o sobre un look effortless, con alguien que realmente entienda, pero entiendo que es parte de esta transición y a veces es divertido porque siento que tengo algo distinto que mostrar aquí, sólo esperemos que me pueda hacer escuchar.

[ezcol_1half]I’m not a 100% sure but I think this look was my favorite, it may have something to do with my vibe or because I was really comfy in those sneakers, but I felt really happy with my choice. Puffy mid-skirts are my weakness, they are really convenient to hide my tummy and are really easy to play with, you just need to add some simple pieces and you can easily get an interesting outfit. I went with a sporty chic sparkle and this time I went with a monochromatic palette to keep the focus on the skirt and my H&M handbag. A lot of people complimented the hand bag and the mix of the skirt with sneakers, a detail I didn’t spot outside of the runway.
I felt that this final day was the best one talking about audience wardrobe, I actually saw some more bold and interesting looks. The most importan thing I learnt about local style was that even if Chile is a season behind and pretty far away from the current trends, they are doing a good work trying to create a rooted style. Putting together events like this and mixing up trends from different seasons they are actually coming up with an interesting mix which also has to work with their insanely cold weather. For now the majority of the time they are into a bohemian/colorful vibe which is not my favorite, I don’t hate it either but it’s definitely not my type.[/ezcol_1half][ezcol_1half_end]No estoy 100% segura, pero creo que el outfit del 3r día fue mi favorito, no sé si tiene que ver con la vibra con la que estaba o el hecho de que mis pies estaban súper cómodos, pero me sentí muy a gusto con mi elección. Las Mid-skirt amponas son mi debilidad, son tan convenientes a la hora de esconder mi pancita y son muy buenas para intentar looks divertidos, sólo tienes que añadir piezas que las complementen y fácilmente logras un look entretenido. Esta vez fue con un toque sporty chic y una paleta monocromática para centrar la atención en la falda y mi bolso de H&M. A mucha gente le gustó la bolsa y la combinación de la falda con tenis.
Sentí que este día fue el mejor en cuanto a los looks de los invitados, de hecho vi algunos looks muy atrevidos e interesantes. Lo más importante que aprendí acerca del estilo chileno es que incluso si se encuentran una temporada atrás y lejos de las tendencias nuevas o actuales, el mundo fashionista está haciendo un muy buen trabajo intentando crear un estilo local y han logrado una interesante mezcla con tendencias de distintas temporadas que tienen que funcionar con su clima helado de invierno. Por ahora la mayoría del tiempo están en esta mezcla bohemia/hippie que en verdad no es mi favorita, no la odio, pero definitivamente no es mi tipo.[/ezcol_1half_end]

[ezcol_1half]Loved this preppy western collection, maybe because it reminds me of home -haha not, but I loved the cohesion and almost every single piece, honestly from head to toe, even menswear. For sure it looked like a retail company and the proposal was more focused in the styling or little details in the prints or maybe some addings to regular pieces like jeans or sweaters. But for me it was a cool way to see how South America sells their looks, and it’s always with this little hippie tint, putting their landscapes into their color palettes and focusing in the traditional ways like ethnic prints and feathers. [/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]Amé esta colección preppy western, tal vez porque me recuerda a casa -haha no es cierto, pero en verdad me encantó la cohesión y casi todas las piezas, de pies a cabeza y hasta la ropa para hombre. Claro que se nota que es una colección de una empresa de ropa y aquí la propuesta va más allá, enfocada en las combinaciones de prendas y/o los pequeños detalles de los estampados o modificaciones de piezas tradicionales como los jeans o suéteres. Para mí lo más interesante fue ver cómo funciona la venta de looks masivos en America del Sur, y siempre es con ese toque hippie, convirtiendo sus paisajes en paleta de color y usando estampados con motivos étnicos. [ezcol_1half]I don’t understand why they did this, I think this was a runway filled with 3 or 4 mini collections, because at the end a group of people came out, but they all had the same styling, so I’m confused. I liked the red details and the necklines of some of the pieces. [ezcol_1half]I have mixed feelings with this collection. I liked the fabric, metallic is my thing -haha. I also loved the color blocking work and the palette used. The pieces where really-absolutely 100% wearable and they actually seem really comfy and easy to style, also they can be used by a wide age range. But I didn’t see a lot of design work talking about the cuts and shapes, most of them weren’t at all flattering and I was a little bored half the runway because it was the same thing over and over.[/ezcol_1half][ezcol_1half_end]Tengo sentimientos encontrados con esta colección. Me gustó la tela, lo metálico me encanta. También me gustó la combinación de colores y la paleta que se usó. Las prendas son 100% súper usables y se ven cómodas y fáciles de adaptar a cada estilo. También siento que el rango de edad que lo puede usar es muy amplio. Pero no se me hizo que viera algo de diseño en los cortes y estructuras de los vestidos, además que la mayoría no eran muy favorecedores y a la mitad de la pasarela ya estaba un poco aburrida porque era como ver lo mismo 30 veces. [ezcol_1half]So much color, texture and fun! That purple/pink cape and the handbags were so lovely! I loved the way Daniel played with designs and styling to put a colorful and fun collection ready for fall (not sure if it will work for Santiago’s winter). Even with some crop tops, open chests and skirt/dresses, most of the pieces are perfect for a coldish weather, you just need to layer them up! And well, I believe he was the one who put tights under short pieces to add color, but also helped to show that you can keep yourself warm while using skirts or dresses. With an endless color scheme and playful makeup ‘Challa’ was a collection with a young and playful proposal.[/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]¡Mucho color, textura y diversión! ¡Esa capa morado con rosa y las bolsas de mano eran tan hermosas! Me encantó la forma en la que Daniel jugó con los diseños y el styling para ofrecernos una colección divertida y colorida lista para el otoño. Incluso con crop tops, pechos abiertos y algunos vestidos, la mayoría de las piezas son perfectas para un clima con frío, sólo tienes que ponerte algo debajo y listo. Y bueno, creo que fue el único en usar medias en los looks con faldas para añadir color, pero también ayudó a mostrar que puedes mantenerte calientita aunque uses vestidos o faldas. Con una paleta de color interminable y un maquillaje divertido, “Challa” fue una colección con una propuesta fresca y juvenil. [/ezcol_1half_end]
[ezcol_1half]A sophisticated collection with a deep but colorful palette, taking black as base color and adding bright details in blue, pink and camel. Each look had its statement piece or application, such as the faux fur jacket, the fringes poncho or the amazing structured jacket which was cool because we got to see a lot of different points of view of the designer and also a lot of technique and fashion proposal. The styling was flawless and I spotted some nice street style trends and some classic lines that created a nice balance. But yet I felt a little bit lost because it was a little too much of everything. [/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]Una colección sofisticada con una paleta colorida pero con tintes fuertes, usando el negro como base y añadiendo detalles en azul, rosa y camel. Cada conjunto tenía una pieza fuerte o alguna aplicación llamativa, como la chaqueta de faux fur, el poncho de flecos o el saco blanco asimétrico, lo cual estuvo bien porque pudimos apreciar distintos puntos de vista del diseñador y también técnicas y propuestas. El maquillaje y peinado me fascinó y vi varias tendencias de street style mezcladas con ideas clásicas, lo que creó un buen balance. Pero aún así, me sentí abrumada, creo que fue mucho de todo y la colección no estaba muy unificada.[/ezcol_1half_end]
[ezcol_1half]One of my favorites from all SFW participants. Even if the color palette wasn’t dramatic or something, I liked the mix between earthy shades with marsala, pretty warm and perfect for fall/winter. The quality of the fabric looked amazing and I fell in love with the silhouettes, long and with a lot of movement, enhancing the legs and with the help of a peplum belt trying to emulate that beautiful hourglass figure. It was funny for me to see the peplum detail again, I remember how much I used to love it, it’s so flattering and helpful to hide and enhance your body. Hats were also a cute adding to the looks, I really loved that touch.[/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]De mis colecciones favoritas de todo el evento. La selección de colores no fue muy dramática ni nada pero me encantó la mezcla de tonos tierra con marsala, muy cálidos-otoñales. La calidad de los materiales se veía muy buena y me enamoré de las siluetas; largas y con mucho movimiento, embelleciendo las piernas y logrando una figura de reloj de arena con la ayuda de un cinto peplum. Recuerdo lo tanto que me gustaba el peplum, muy halagador y perfecto para lograr una linda figura. También me gustaron los sombreros, fue un lindo toque.[/ezcol_1half_end]
[ezcol_1half]Such a wonderful work! Claudio managed to make me fall in love with a deep detailed collection. Those tree-like embroideries were perfectly made, it looked like Tim Burton went high fashion. Primarily girly silhouettes with risky cleavage and penchant to shoulders. Loved the shade of blue he used and the classic/elegant style he approached with every look. I’m gonna be honest and say that I loved his work, it seemed really professional and with a good proposal; working with classic silhouettes but making them modern with bold cuts and mixing materials or techniques. Although, I think the makeup/head pieces stole the attention from the real deal. [/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]¡Maravilloso trabajo! Claudio logró enamorarme a fondo de una colección llena de detalles. Los bordados en forma de árboles estaban perfectos, parecía como si Tim Burton hubiera sacado una colección de alta costura. En mayor parte siluetas muy femeninas con escotes pronunciados y con énfasis en los hombros. Me encantó el tono de azul y el look elegante que logró con cada conjunto. Seré honesta y diré que amé su trabajo, se veía muy profesional y con una propuesta muy buena; trabajó con siluetas clásicas pero dándole un toque moderno con cortes atrevidos y mezcla de telas o técnicas. Sólo siento que el maquillaje y las piezas para el cabello robaron un poco la atención de lo que realmente era importante.[/ezcol_1half_end]
Luckily for me, according to my new friends I’m just in time to live the transition. I really hope Santiago can grow and be a fashion capital and not just a ‘new rich’ land, because for me -and any other cali girl- it kind of looks like it now. They are making and effort, doing events like this, supporting bloggers and fashion projects and trying to get the attention of international brands. They just had Urban Decay last month and also they happen to have their own version of Harper’s Bazar which I find pretty cool for a 17 million country. Santiago is getting a lot of attention from the fashion media and I just hope it doesn’t get to anyone’s head and they –or should I say we?– find the way to work together -bloggers, local brands, producers, media and shoppers- and actually put Santiago into the big leagues. I heard Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is coming next spring (August 2015) so, let’s make our bets!
Por suerte para mi, según mis nuevas amigas llegué justo a tiempo para la transición. En verdad espero que Santiago crezca y se vuelva una capital de la moda y no sólo un país con nuevos ricos, porque para mi -y cualquier otra Cali girl- como que eso parece. Se nota que están haciendo el esfuerzo, haciendo eventos para mostrar lo que tienen para ofrecer, apoyando el trabajo de bloggers y proyectos dentro de la moda y siempre intentando tener la atención de marcas internacionales. Justo hace unos meses Urban Decay llegó y también su propia versión de Harper’s Bazar, lo cual me parece muy cool para un país de 17 millones de personas. Santiago está comenzando a tener mucha atención de los medios en cuanto a la moda y en verdad espero que a nadie se le suba a la cabeza y que entre ellos -o debería decir nosotros?- encuentren la forma de trabajar juntos -bloggers, marcas locales, productores, medios y usuarios- y de verdad metan a Santiago en las grandes ligas. Escuché que Mercedes Benz Fashion Week viene para la primavera (Agosto, 2015) así que, hay que preparar nuestras apuestas!
